I'm pretty sure The Aaltos were not a Gospel group...but they should have been! They certainly had the hair for it.
They even had matching outfits and pulled an equipment trailer with a pick-up truck... They had to at least know Jesus on some level...
Wait! where did the 5th Aalto suddenly appear from?
ReplyDeleteI said the very same thing, I can't stop giggling!!
DeleteThe Aaltos were, indeed, a gospel group. They started out as a family band in Sweden. Not sure how many kids in all there were, but it was a big family. It was the typical family band set-up: mom, dad & the kids would all sing/perform. When they got old enough, the kids decided to start their own band which leaned more in a "Jesus Music" direction & the records you've posted are the result. There's a distinct "native folk" element to their music which seems to turn a lot of people off, but was different enough in the States back in the day to draw church crowds for at least a little while. Theirs is the typical story: discovered by an American who thought he might be able to sell their sound Stateside, they toured successfully until the "new & different" wore off, then went back to Sweden. Eva (the kneeling one w/the braids in the first pic) was their chief songwriter & Timo (tall blond guy) was main lead singer. I think they've both passed on now.
